Zayn al-‘Ābidīn ibn Abū al-Ḥasan Karbalā’ī Hāšimī,
Faras-nāma
[Preliminary Entry] The Faras-nāma of Zayn al-‘Ābidīn ibn Abū al-Ḥasan Karbalā’ī Hāšimī is a translation of the Śālihotra. It was made in 926/1520 at the request of sultan Muẓaffar Šāh II (r. 1511-1526) of Gujarat who ordered an Indian scholar to help Hāšimī with the translation. The work is divided in two parts, the first on hippology and the second on hippiatry. In the seventeenth century, a new adaptation of the Śālihotra was prepared for ‘Abd Allāh Ḫān Fīrūz-Jang (m. 1054/1644) that was almost entirely based on Hāšimī’s translation.
