Sūndar Lāl, Majmū‘a-yi fayż wa gul-i bī-ḫazān

[Preliminary Entry] A history of Kol, Mathura and Vrindavan (Uttar Pradesh) written in 1241/1825-1826, by Sūndar Lāl son of Naubat Lāl. He was a munšī (secretary) in the ḫāliṣa office and lived in Kol. Sūndar Lāl was a Kāyastha of the Māthur caste. The part of the title Gulistān-i bī-ḫazān is a chronogram inscription for the date of composition of the work (1241 of the Hejira). The text consists of four chapters, of which the first three deal with the foundation of Delhi, the history of Kol, of Mathurā and Bindrāban. The fourth chapter contains some legends handed down by oral tradition. A table of contents is included at the end of the book. The only known manuscript copy is incomplete and comprises some extracts of the original version which is said to have consisted of four hundred pages.
